Hyatt Regency Irvine

As you enter the hotel, the registration desk is to the left.  It is an open registration desk, which makes the hotel lobby seems bigger than it actually is.  The front desk person, quickly recognized my Diamond Status and asked if I would like points or a welcome gift as the amenity.  I opted for the points.  The Regency Club is also closed on the weekends, so I was given an extra 2,500 points.  I was not told about the breakfast benefits, so after inquiring, was told to charge it to my room and it would later be taken off.

I was given a room on the Club Floor.  The room was somewhat small, and had sort of a triangular shape.  There was a small desk, large dresser with TV, small lounge chair, and a small balcony with two chairs.  Unfortunately, the view is either of the freeway or business park in which the hotels sits.

The bathroom is very tiny, in which you need to almost go to the end of the bathroom in order to be able to close the door.  There is only a shower/tub combo with the usual Portico soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

Despite being close to the freeway, and to a lesser extent John Wayne Airport, the hotel is quiet, especially being on the Club Floor.

The internet access is fairly quick, with minor hiccups in connection speed on occasion.

The pool is achingly small, as this hotel is primarily geared towards business travelers.

Breakfast is served in 6ix Park Grill, the hotel’s main restaurant.  The breakfast buffet ($20 per person) spread is fairly small, with eggs, bacon, sausage, steel cut oatmeal and pancakes as the only hot items.  To their credit, the pancakes are nice and fluffy despite being left to sit and linger on the buffet line.  There is an assortment of fresh fruit, cheeses, cereal, muffins, pastries and bagels with all the fixings.

As this is hotel is primarily geared towards business travelers, it is fairly empty on the weekends.  There are very limited dining options in the hotel itself, but there are numerous dining options close to the hotel, but most will require a car.  Self parking is $18 per day.

The Hyatt Regency Irvine is definitely not a resort, but is a good option for the business traveler or those opting for a quiet staycation.
