Hyatt Regency Paris - Charles De Gaulle

The Hyatt Regency Paris - Charles DeGaulle is billed as a convenient airport hotel, but in actuality is not all that close to the airport.

The hotel does have a shuttle, but it is not all that reliable, as has been discussed by other bloggers and travel forums.  When waiting for the shuttle to the hotel, a wait of approximately 40 minutes was needed.  I was about to hail a taxi when the shuttle van finally did arrive.

After entering the hotel, the registration desk is directly to the left.  Unfortunately, when I got there no employees were in sight.  It took a few minutes before an employee did come to the front desk.  Registration was prompt, however the front desk employee did not direct me to the only working bank of elevators.

I headed to the closest set of elevators to the registration desk only to find out that they did not work.  After heading back to the registration desk, only then was I informed that the working elevators were located towards the back of the hotel.

I was given a Club King room, which was about the size of your average room in Europe.

There was a king bed, a small chair, with dresser and TV.

The bathroom was fairly large with a combination shower/tub.  There is very little counter space, which is always a hassle when traveling.

Bathroom
My main problem with the bathroom was the shower/tub set-up.  There was only a partial shower door, which always gets water all over the floor and allows heat to escape.  The second issue was with the height difference between the bathroom floor and the tub.  It must have been close to a foot, which can be a hazard since it is such a large difference.  With a wet floor, slipping and falling can easily occur.

The other problem with the room is that the air conditioner worked very poorly.  This made the room extremely uncomfortable.

The Regency Club had a very small selection.  There were only a couple of pieces of fresh fruit, some dried fruit and nuts, along with a selection of drinks.  The Regency Club is somewhat small, although it is two stories.  There was no attendant in the club either.

In order to get into Paris, you need to take the shuttle back to Charles De Gaulle Airport, then take the RER or other mode of transportation into the city.  This is a major setback due to the unreliability of the hotel shuttle.  It also takes about 15 minutes for the shuttle ride between the airport and hotel.

After going into Paris, we waited for over 50 minutes for the shuttle to arrive to take us back to the hotel.  The shuttle never arrived, and we ended up taking a taxi back to the hotel.  As we had an early flight the next morning, this was a huge waste of time.

After speaking with the front desk manager about the unreliability of the shuttle, he said that he would look into it, and did apologize for the inconvenience and gave me 5,000 extra Gold Passport points.

The Hyatt Regency Charles De Gaulle is a nice hotel, but not exactly close to the airport.  If you aren’t pressed for time this is a good choice, as the hotel is clean and well maintained.

Aloft - Ontario/Rancho Cucamonga

Aloft Sign

Exterior

Aloft dubs itself as “A Vision of W Hotels”, and is so to a certain extent.  It has a hipster cool interior with a pool table, open bar and lounge area, a small “convenience store” and trying to promote a feeling of community.

As you enter the hotel, there are two self check-in kiosks, with a “registration desk” off to the right.  There is a pool table to the left with an bar and open seating area straight ahead.

Check in was quick and efficient.  We were given a room on the second floor.

Upon entering the room, the bathroom sink is immediately to the left with an open closet/room divider right next to it.  There is a coffee maker and two complimentary bottles of water.

The bathroom has a sliding mirrored door which separates the toilet and shower.

On the opposite side of the room divider, there are two full beds with an odd cowhide piece adorning the walls.
Bedroom

There is a long desk area, next to a small “sofa” which is oddly placed right under the TV.  There is no central air conditioning, only a loud in room air conditioner which did not do an adequate job of cooling the room.

The hotel is a mix of modern architectural features and industrial warehouse with an IKEA type feeling in regards to the decor.  I am unsure if I really like the hotel or not.  At the price of about $85/night I wouldn’t mind having another stay at the Aloft to get a better feel for the chain.

Air France A380

Air France A380
I recently had the opportunity to fly on the much talked about Airbus A380, unfortunately this was not in business or first class.

The plane has a 3-4-3 layout, but even in coach the seats seems a little wider although leg room is still at a premium.  With a direct flight from LAX to Charles De Gaulle any extra space is greatly appreciated.

Each seat has it's own personal entertainment system in which you can watch movies or TV shows, or listen to music.  There is also a USB connector in which you can also use your phone, iPad, tablet or computer and lessen battery usage.

Food service, like most commercial flights in coach, is rather lackluster.

The ability to fly without a layover is a great convenience, but hopefully I will be able to experience it business or first class next time.

Hyatt Regency Phoenix

The Hyatt Regency Phoenix is located in downtown, and within walking distance of Chase Field and US AirwaysCenter.

As you enter the hotel, the registration desk is located to the left and in the back.

Registration was quick, and all Diamond benefits were clearly explained.  As the hotel has no Regency Club, breakfast was offered in the restaurant.  Unfortunately, the 2,500 bonus Gold Passport points also do not apply as there is no Regency Club.

I used a suite upgrade, and was given the VIP Suite, which measures approximately 1,850 square feet.

As you enter the VIP Suite, there is a wet bar immediately to the left.

The Hyatt Regency Phoenix is a good hotel if you need to be in the downtown area.  The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and is conveniently located.  I would definitely stay here again if in the downtown area.
